Introducing Inman Valley Leadlight and Glass Creations

Barry and Frances of Inman Valley leadlight and glass creations have lived in the Inman Valley area for the last 30 plus years. Creating leadlight and glass art from their home-based workshop. From leadlight panels, sun catches, lampshades, and willing to try most things these artist work together to create eye catching statement pieces.

After purchasing a salvaged leadlight window and door when building their house 30 years ago, both Barry and Frances were inspired by the longevity of the artform and that the story of this piece would live on past its original life. After finding a local course advertised several years later, Barry learnt the skills required to repair some slight damage in their door. Frances who is responsible for most of the design work, draws inspiration from nature, including the colours of Australian wildflowers and birds while still enjoying working with the more traditional reproductions.

From there as they say the rest is history, Frances also learned the construction side, and after a talk with a furniture manufacturer asking, do you ever use leadlight? Things just rolled on from there. People talk to each other and they ended up in 15 to 17 regular outlets.

Like a lot of things, the more you practice, the better you get. With the growing experience Frances and Barry have since focused more on the bespoke one-off pieces. After designing with the client, Frances hands over to Barry to assemble they take great joy in watching the work come to life.

Frances, and Barry take their greatest joy in producing an original product from start to finish. While Barry loves working on the large statement pieces, Frances also gets involved in the construction of the more delicate suncatchers, pot plant holders and 3D work using the copper foil technique.

In the future Inman Valley Leadlight and Glass Creations hopes to further expand their skills and continue to focus on the products they produce. And maybe even get around to repairing the window and door that started this whole journey.

Keep an eye out for some premade work going up soon to the shop on Fleurieu Handmade.
